One of the major figures in the sector through the 2000s to 2019, Stuart led Becton’s village portfolio, followed by M&A and private village investment portfolios. After an aged care stint, he is in demand back in retirement living.
Stuart has developed, acquired and operated retirement villages and residential aged care homes with a total gross value of over AUD$1 billion.
He tells us that he is being drawn back to the sector by the influx of new investors in retirement villages who are attracted by the fundamentals of property and the ageing demographic, but may not have the expertise to create vibrant, high performing communities.
He has also had approaches from existing village operators who wish to re-energise their businesses.
Stuart points out that the increasing regulation and compliance regimes coupled with the increasing requirement to have a care strategy that is deliverable, necessitates experience in strategy development and ongoing management.
Stuart has joined with One Fell Swoop to create an Operations Division. He offers to tailor services, with an emphasis on business strategy, implementation and operations. Clients can decide how much or how little they want.

He says: “One Fell Swoop’s operations service draws on decades of retirement living and aged care management experience to design and operationalise a vision for your seniors living community that exceeds the expectations of your residents and your investors, today and into the future.”
