Leading Age Services Australia (LASA) and the Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) have partnered to produce the short video series – which have already received over 2,000 views after being released this week.

Titled ‘Your health is in all of our hands – keeping older Australians safe from COVID-19’, the videos are hosted by Dr Norman Swan, who also hosts the ABC’s highly popular Coronacast podcast and are designed to ‘bust’ some of the myths around coronavirus that have seen many home care clients put their packages on hold.

The series includes five videos on:

  • keeping safe during COVID-19;
  • allowing care workers into your home;
  • safety in residential care;
  • what to do if you get sick; and
  • caring for people with dementia.

The series covers a wide range of issues including:

  • Appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment;
  • Concerns of home care clients about staff coming into their homes:
  • Messages on social distancing;
  • Reduced visitation;
  • Risk reduction measures; and
  • Available supports.

As we covered here, the Department of Health has also highlighted the issue as a concern, providing flyers to operators to hand out to home care clients to remind them “it’s okay to have home care” during the pandemic.
