Not For Profit doubles capacity with latest aged care expansion
Uniting AgeWell, which operates in Tasmania and Victoria, has opened three new wings at its Ningana aged care facility in Sorrell, 25km northeast of central Hobart.
The $24 million project increased bed capacity at Ningana, which opened 29 years ago, by 48 beds to 112 beds, and includes a cafe, family club lounge, bar, hairdressing salon, and chapel.
“At a time when other providers chose to put a freeze on capital projects, Uniting AgeWell has invested more than $98 million in infrastructure in Tasmania in recent years,” said Uniting AgeWell CEO Andrew Kinnersly (pictured below).

“With a rapidly ageing population we expect to see a significant increase in the demand for both home care and residential care services in coming years.
“Uniting AgeWell invests considerable effort into capital planning to ensure that we meet the unique needs of the communities we serve. We strive to understand and meet local community demand ... particularly where there are known shortages.”
Steady growth
An organisation of the Uniting Church in Australia, Uniting AgeWell has been expanding steadily over several years.
In June 2025, The Latvian Friendly Society transferred the business and assets of the Latvian Community Aged Care Facility and Latvian Retirement Village in Wantirna South, 26km east of the centre of Melbourne, to Uniting AgeWell.
When disability and home care provider Annecto went into liquidation last year, the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing selected Uniting AgeWell to take over their Victorian CHSP services and Home Care Packages.
Uniting AgeWell also opened new aged care wings at its residential care communities in Mornington and Rosetta in 2025, in Newnham in 2021, and in Latrobe in 2019.
Today, Uniting AgeWell operates across Victoria and Tasmania with 21 aged care homes (13 in Victoria and eight in Tasmania). The organisation also operates retirement villages, independent living units, a growing home care operation, community and social housing, and respite care.
