Vasey RSL Care’s green light for $321M retirement living redevelopment
The Not For Profit has received planning approval to redevelop its Frankston South site into a multi-million-dollar retirement living, assisted living and aged care community.
Vasey RSL Care’s existing aged care home at the site is spread over five linked houses and sits adjacent to its ex-service accommodation – around 80 rental units for veterans and war widows, 43km south-west of Melbourne’s CBD.
The Not For Profit had lodged a Significant Residential Development with an Affordable Housing application under the Development Facilitation Program to redvelop the 7.62 hectare site.
The $321 million redevelopment proposes to transform the site into 362 independent living units across villas, townhouses and apartment blocks of one to six storeys, an 80-bed aged care facility and 52 assisted living apartments.

“This development in an attractive location in Frankston South will offer quality homes for those retirees looking for a friendly community where they can stay involved,” Vasey RSL Care said in a statement.
“The variety of accommodation and services will enable residents to stay healthy and retain independence, knowing more support is available if needed down the track.”
According to the architectural design report by ThomsonAdsett Architects, the design focuses on six key principles: site sensitivity, meaningful social experiences, health and wellness, sustainability, the ‘small house’ model of care, and a ‘site of care’ philosophy.

The organisation, which provides home care, residential aged care, affordable housing and veteran support, said with the permit issued, it will now refine and finalise the design.
“There is a lot of work to be done and we will continue to communicate regularly with our community and all those interested in this development,” said the operator.
“This is a very exciting time for Vasey RSL Care and we are thrilled to now have the go ahead to progress this contemporary and inclusive development, a major part of our Strategic Plan for the veteran community and for all Australians.”
