The TLC Homestead aged care facility wants to transform two lakes on its site into 22 extra carpark spaces – but the land is home to hundreds of water fowl, turtles and frogs that will likely die or be displaced if the plans go ahead.
A Facebook post calling for locals to oppose the carpark development has gained significant traction in the last week, and the Geelong branch of The Australian Greens have urged people to put pressure on TLC CEO Lou Pascuzzi to retain the lakes.
Western Victoria MP Andy Meddick says he will be approaching the Environment Minister in an effort to intervene, questioning whether a sufficient environment affect statement was done before the plans were approved by local council in December 2017.
