The aged care turnaround specialist has announced a major refurbishment of its Edward Collick Home in Kalgoorlie, 600km east of Perth, expanding its capacity from 50 to 89 beds.

Respect, which is based in Devonport, Tasmania, acquired the home from Amana Living effective May 2025, marking the operator’s expansion into Western Australia for the first time.

The project is being partly funded by a $4.5 million grant from Round 2 of the Aged Care Capital Assistance Program, which funds infrastructure for aged care providers in regional, rural and remote areas. Respect will also contribute its own funds towards the project.

The redevelopment will expand the home’s capacity from 50 to 89 beds, refurbishing and modernising existing buildings on the site that had been decommissioned with 39 single rooms.

The cost to build is $128,000 per bed, far lower than costs to build new, which can range up to $800,000 per bed for new builds in regional areas.

Other work includes:

  • Renovation of all rooms,
  • Upgrades to communal dining and living areas,
  • Improving outdoor courtyards with native plantings, and
  • Installation of a backup generator to safeguard against power interruptions

Respect CEO and Managing Director, Jason Binder, said the refurbishment reflects Respect’s broader strategy to improve aged care across regional and rural Australia.

“We’re very big on making sure older people in regional Australia receive care that’s as good as the cities,” he said.

“This investment ensures Edward Collick Home remains a modern environment for residents, while maintaining the country legacy and community spirit of the home.”

Construction commenced in September 2025 and is scheduled for completion by December 2026.
