Zero is the new hero! Google searches are soon to be single voice responses only. Are you the top answer?

1 min read

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the future of online search is voice technology via devices such as Google Home, Apple Homepod or Amazon Echo.

This future we speak of is approaching quicker than you may think. Comscore predicts 50% of all searches to be voice searches within the next two years!

Have you stopped to think about how your website will be found in a world of singles response answers? The answer is – if you’re not in position zero, it won’t.

It won’t come as a surprise to you that Google has been building towards this future for some time. You’ve likely seen their new featured snippets – also referred to as position zero.

The image above represents a Google Snippet for our website agedcare101.com.au in response to “what is an ACAT?”.

How important is it to secure position zero? Very!

As demonstrated in this video, the boy asks, “how many stars are in our galaxy” Google Home responds with an answer and cites the website the content was pulled from “according to space.com”. It then also sends the website to an app on the consumers' phone or displays it on a linked device.

What does this mean?

SEO is more important than ever! In a future of voice technology, there is only one spot and it needs to be yours, otherwise, how will you be found?

It has also been suggested that publishing content in Q&A form, formatted with sub-headings, bullet lists, and numbered lists may have a higher chance of getting ranked as a featured snippet.

There are tracking tools available such as SEMRush that you can use to see if you are currently ranking in position zero for any search terms.
