Not For Profit takes over management of Council-run home care services in Far North QLD

Queensland Not For Profit health services provider selectability officially took over management of Aurukun home care services this week, with an event held to mark the occasion in the remote community in Far North Queensland's Cape York Peninsula.

Management of the services, provided to more than 40 recipients in the region, was transferred to selectability from Aurukun Shire Council on 2 July.

CEO Debra Burden (above left) attended a community event at the local Chivaree centre to mark the occasion, along with the Mayor of Aurukun Shire Council Barbara Bandicootcha (above centre), and Aurukun Shire Council CEO Jack Dempsey (above right), along with care recipients, employees and community members.

“selectability is honoured to take on this responsibility and we look forward to working closely with the Aurukun community to support Elders with dignity and cultural understanding,” said Debra.

“Our team will ensure the care for Elders remains centred on compassionate, culturally safe, and high-quality.”

In 2023, selectability took over operation of three aged care homes in the Gulf of Carpenteria from Not For Profit Gidgee Healing in Normanton, Doomadgee, and Mornington Island.
