“Aged care cash grab”: Courier Mail targets RAD threshold increase to $750K

1 min read

The Queensland paper says “retirees would be forced to fork out” more as the Minister for Aged Care Ken Wyatt considers raising the current threshold of $550,000.

The changes were recommended by David Tune AO in his recent review of federal aged care funding to ensure RADS were in line with growing house prices and future maximum accommodation payments.

Currently only 10% of providers charge more than $550,000. Mr Tune also recommended increasing the basic daily fee for residents who can afford to pay more.

But with headlines like these, residents and their families are unlikely to be persuaded.
