Australia’s largest residential aged care provider has secured its second NSW State Significant Development (SSD) approval, marking another major milestone.
The application was approved by the Independent Planning Commission (IPC) after a 14-month assessment process by the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.
The $80 million, three-storey 148-suite GroupGSA designed development, equates to $541,000 per suite. There is onsite kitchen and laundry facilities, onsite ancillary services including café, salon, gym, health consulting rooms; with basement car parking for 42 car spaces, three motorbike bays and a mini bus.
“The number of people living in the St Ives area aged over 65 is expected to double by 2041. This means we will be able to support the local ageing population with much needed availability and choice in residential care and services while remaining in their community,” said an Opal HealthCare spokesperson.

“The building design reflects and embraces the natural surroundings of the upper North Shore, with a materials palette of sandstone, timber and glass complementing native gardens and open spaces.
“We are now proceeding with detailed design documentation, following which we will plan for tender and construction activities.”
The approval follows the green light for Opal’s first SSD project which will see the 165-bed, three-storey Narwee Parklands Care Community built on the site of a former Bupa aged care home.
