There were 15 residential aged care deaths from COVID-19 in the week to 28 March 2024, with the overall rate of deaths from the virus declining.

But for the 27-month period from 15 December 2021 - when the Omicron outbreak started - until 23 March 2024, COVID-19 accounted for 4% of deaths in residential aged care.

There were 894 resident cases in residential aged care in the week to 28 March 2024, 134 more than the previous week but down from another surge in cases between October 2023 and March 2024.

There were COVID-19 outbreaks in 194 aged care homes (54 in NSW, 52 in Victoria and 41 in Queensland), with 22 new outbreaks reported since the previous week.
