Veteran village developer Geoff Cox’s Crighton Developments had been working on its regional Bathurst site for five years, until he had to call in receivers to his group as it struggled to recover from the GFC. Now the local Bathurst Council has announced it will take over the development as the region needs retirement village accommodation plus it expects it will draw in people from outside the region. It has also been quoted as saying it has a duty to explore all good investment opportunities for rate payers. Cox was quoted last year that the project was a good one “but it will take a company with deeper pockets than ours and a more sympathetic bank than ours”.
