Regis is the second largest residential aged care provider with 4,700 beds across 48 facilities. Macquarie Bank owns 44% and is a seller. Talk is that three big international investment groups are circling, including the $69B Canadian pension fund Alberta Investment Management, plus another huge Canadian fund called Borealis. Regis is said to be worth $550M. The heightened interest by institutional investors is based on a belief that the new Abbott Government will relax industry regulation backed up by low take up of bed licences over the past five years which will lead to a demand/supply crunch.
