House and apartment building starts are expanding for the first time since April 2010, according to the Australian Industry Group/HIA Australian Performance of Construction Index. New orders for housing over the past four months saw the housing sub index rise 12.5points to 61.5 in September. Anything above 50 points indicates expansion. Apartments rose 20 points to 57.7 points. The returning overall confidence in housing is reflected in village sales reported from all parts of Australia except SA.
