Demonstrating that satellite groups continue to lead innovative thinking, Kiama Council has opened negotiations with the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District to get access to land surrounding Kiama Hospital to build a care facility plus a retirement village, with the funding to be supplemented by adding a residential development to the mix. On top of this the two bodies have made an application for $8M from the Restart NSW Illawarra Infrastructure Fund. Kiama Council already operates the very successful Blue Haven Retirement Village (pictured) with 205 ILUs with ocean views and an 83 bed care facility.
