New conflict of interest laws: Councillor steps down from Sundale Board

Sunshine Coast Councillor Jenny McKay has resigned her tenure on the board of Sundale retirement villages because of changes to the Local Government Act. Changes to the Act have tightened conflict of interest requirements, making it difficult for councillors to accept board positions without accusations of conflict of interest. Sundale CEO, Glenn Bunney said he was disappointed Councillor McKay had to resign from the board.
"It's hard to get understanding in council without that type of connection. It's hard enough as it is," Bunney told a local newspaper.
