Mal Humphries established ARCare in 1999 as a division of the village operator Australian Retirement Communities. Approximately 21 ARC villages were then sold to Stockland around 2007 but the ARCare business was kept separate. Today they operate 16 residential aged care facilities with over 1,900 staff. Last week they opened the 120 bed low, high and dementia care facility as a five-star product on Hope Island (on the Gold Coast). While a private operation, Humphries has maintained a strong personal association with the Churches Christ and remains a director of ARCare.
Under CEO Colin Singh, ARCare now has another six aged care facilities in development, including ARCare Bellerine, ARCare Tudor Court, ARCare Craigieburn, all with Extra Services. Additionally they have just received DA approval for a 90 bed facility in Dandenong, designed specifically for the Sri Lankan community.
