Catholic Healthcare investing $600M to build connected communities across NSW

Catholic Healthcare, one of Australia’s largest Not For Profit aged care and retirement living providers, is investing over $600 million across five integrated communities in New South Wales over the next five years.

The provider’s “connected communities” model combines residential aged care, retirement living, home care, and wellness services – both onsite and virtual – in vibrant, purpose-built villages designed to foster connection, independence and belonging.

"We’ve spent a lot of time understanding what people will want in the future," said CEO Josh McFarlane. "We are building villages that integrate community care and residential care while aiming to make a real difference in the broader community, potentially serving thousands of people and creating a lasting impact."

McQuoin Park to set the standard

The flagship site, McQuoin Park in Wahroonga, Sydney, features a 122-bed residential aged care home with a dedicated dementia unit, short-term respite services, and a 79-unit retirement village – all supported by onsite home care services. Construction has just begun on an additional 79 apartments with Growthbuilt as the construction partner, expanding the village to 167 units. The new apartments will be available from August 2025.

The other connected communities are:

  • Lewisham, Inner West Sydney: 130 retirement apartments, 59 aged care beds, a wellness centre, cafés and lifestyle amenities, with A DA lodged and construction planned for early 2027.
  • Maroubra Beach, Eastern Suburbs: 55 premium apartments and 44 aged care beds, including coastal-view care suites, wellness, dining and leisure offerings, a concierge and assisted living options to support ageing in place.
  • Blacktown, Western Sydney: A DA has been submitted for the Stage 2 expansion at St Hedwig Village, which will add 46 retirement units for a total of 117 units, plus a community precinct including a wellness centre with café, lifestyle amenities and administration spaces. The aged care home will also be upgraded to 82 beds in a household model, including 12 care suites. Development is due to commence in early 2026 with expressions of interest now open.
  • Forbes, Central West NSW: The second stage of Jemalong Retirement Village is underway in Forbes, approximately 375km west of Sydney. The expansion will add seven villas and a community centre to take the number of units to 27 alongside the existing 127-bed aged care home.

Catholic Healthcare operates 41 aged care homes and 13 retirement villages, delivering home care services to nearly 10,000 residents and clients, supported by 5,500 employees and 700 volunteers.
