Rosedurnate Retirement Village and Aged Care, which has been providing health services in the town of Parkes, 355km west of Sydney, since 1929, has been shut down by the Salvation Army.
"A comprehensive assessment of the Parkes site found it no longer met the needs of residents and staff due to the age of the buildings and would require significant investment to bring them up to the high standards they deserved," said Stephen Macliver AM, National Director of Salvation Army Aged Care.
The Salvation Army also divested itself of Moyne Aged Care Centre in nearby Canowindra, 319km west of Sydney. Roshana Care Group agreed to keep it open, assuming ownership on 28 June.
Parkes Shire Council Mayor Neil Westcott in a letter to the Champion Post said: “Rosedurnate is an ICON for healthcare in Parkes”.
