Dedico’s huge Dural retirement village and aged care development knocked back on environmental grounds

The new wave of consumer advocacy: The $98 million Wirrabara Village by the Sydney property group would have included a four-storey 72-bed aged care facility, 117 assisted living units across two- and three-storey buildings, 37 independent living units and 80 apartments in semi-rural ‘five acre block’ Dural, 36km northwest of the Sydney CBD.

But the plan has been turned down in the Land and Environment Court over concerns about its impact on endangered and threatened species nearby, plus the location and access to infrastructure.

“The proposal does not contribute to and is not compatible with the rural character of the locality,” Court commissioner Susan O’Neill said.

Dural currently has applications for five village and aged care developments waiting to be approved.
