Anglicare Sydney officially opens Roden Cutler Lodge on Sydney's upper north shore

Christian Not For Profit Anglicare held the official opening of Roden Cutler Lodge, a 107-bed aged care home in Gordon, 14km north west of the Sydney central business district, on 6 December, with the late Sir Roden's son Anthony in attendance.

The home accepted its first residents back in in August 2022, but the official opening was delayed for nearly 18 months due to caution around COVID-19

Roden Cutler Lodge is the residential aged care wing of Gordon Quarter, which was formerly known as Lady Gowrie Village. Gordon Quarter has undergone a six-year redevelopment, and contains 40 retirement living units, the heritage-listed Mediterranean-style mansion Burnham Thorpe (pictured) complete with original chandelier, cascading staircase and ballroom, as well as community facilities, all surrounded by natural bushland.

Sir Arthur Roden Cutler (24 May 1916 – 21 February 2002), was an Australian diplomat, the longest-serving NSW Governor and a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry "in the face of the enemy" that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth armed forces.

“There is a 40-year history of life-enriching care on this site and Roden Cutler Lodge continues this legacy for a new generation," said Anglicare CEO Simon Miller.

Anglicare, which has 23 aged care homes, recently separated its residential care operations into a single unit, and pooled the organisation’s 25 retirement villages, 4,000 Home Care Packages (HCPs) and 15 community housing sites, which cater mainly for older women, into a separate unit, Seniors Living.

The organisation is aiming to embed home care services in its villages, in the fashion of LDK, in which Anglicare recently acquired a $20 million stake.

Simon has told SATURDAY, our digital magazine, 6,000 to 7,000 aged care beds are required to deliver financial viability in residential aged care.
