Keyton named preferred partner for Cronulla RSL oceanfront redevelopment

Retirement village operator Keyton has been selected to redevelop Cronulla RSL’s prized oceanfront site and car park, opposite the beach, 30km south of Sydney's CBD.

The club, which posted a $1.5 million profit in 2024 ($1.8 million in 2023), called for expressions of interest in October 2023 to secure its long-term future amid declining gambling revenue and growing food and beverage competition. As part of the deal, the club will remain a central feature of the Keyton redevelopment.

Cronulla RSL chief executive Nathan Whiteside advised members via email that "over 20 high quality proposals" to redevelop the 30,000-member club were received.

"After careful evaluation, Keyton has emerged as our preferred redevelopment partner, We are now entering a detailed collaboration with them to explore the full potential of our sites," he said.

"This phase includes comprehensive due diligence supported by independent experts in property, legal, technical, and financial fields, to develop a business case and present informed options."

Nathan stressed that no redevelopment will proceed without member approval.

"Your input is central to shaping the future direction of our Club, and we are committed to keeping you informed at every key stage," he added.

"Central to our vision is upgrading our 80-year-old base building to deliver inclusive, accessible, efficient, and purpose-built facilities that reflect the values and needs of our evolving membership."

Keyton, which operates 75 retirement villages nationwide and partners with the University of Wollongong on its Health and Wellbeing Precinct, also runs the premium Ardency brand – with the waterfront Cronulla RSL appearing a prime fit for the sub-brand.
