Demand for retirement living appears every where.
The Goldfields Masonic Homes' village in the city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, 595km east-northeast of Perth, opened in 2019 as a 49-unit retirement village.
Goldfields Masonic Homes chairman Doug Daws said there has been growing demand for its aged-friendly accommodation, with more than 200 people on their waiting list.
The SOURCE reported in July 2022, the Western Australian Government unlocked 15.6ha of crown land for a major expansion of Pringle Village. He said stage two of the development would see 80 two-bedroom units constructed at an expected cost of $35 million.
He said the price per unit had increased significantly since stage one because of rising inflation and materials and labour shortages.
“The next stage will require us to raise in the order of $35 million, which is not a small sum of money . . . but we’re not daunted by it and we’re committed to move ahead with that,” Doug said.
“We don’t anticipate there will be any retreat to the fundamental costs of building construction and we are experiencing ongoing and unprecedented interest, and registration for a position on our waiting list currently."
