The Victorian Minister for Health Infrastructure, Mary-Anne Thomas, has turned the first sod on a new $134.6 million public residential aged care facility at the existing Kingston Centre, Cheltenham, a Melbourne suburb 18km southeast of the city centre.
The 150-bed development will feature single bedrooms with ensuites grouped into small households to create a home-like environment. It will replace the former AG Eastwood aged care facility.
The facility is expected to be completed in 2025 and will be operated by Monash Health. It will form part of the Kingston Centre, a community-focused neighbourhood that provides integrated health and wellbeing services for older Victorians.
The development will enable contemporary models of aged care that are dementia friendly, support mental health, and suited to the needs of people with complex care needs.
