Australian Capital Territory is COVID-free for second consecutive week

In the week to 4 April 2024, the Australian Capital Territory recorded no cases of COVID-19 in residential aged care for the second consecutive week.

It was the first time a state or territory had recorded no COVID-19 cases in a week since August 2023.

By contrast, 61 aged care homes in NSW experienced outbreaks during the week with 292 active resident cases, 43 home in Vic recorded outbreaks with 241 resident cases, and 42 aged care homes in Qld experienced outbreaks with 170 resident cases.

There were just under 1,000 COVID-19 resident cases in residential aged care around the country - 918 - and outbreaks recorded in 191 homes.

In the week to 4 April 2024, another 11 residents died from COVID-19.
