BlueCHP to deliver senior-friendly social housing on Sunshine Coast by 2026

Construction is underway on a new five-storey social housing development in Birtinya, in the growth suburb of Kawana Waters, 100km north of Brisbane.

Originally approved by Sunshine Coast Council in April 2023, the project will see 63 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments for seniors and people with disabilities built on a 2622sqm block close to Sunshine Coast University Hospital and is due for completion in mid-2026.

Blue CHP Limited, which provides social, affordable and disability homes across eastern Australia, is managing the project as part of Queensland's major housing investment push.

Housing Minister Sam O’Connor, who visited the site on 15 July, said the project reflects the state's record $5.6 billion investment in social and community housing.

“This Birtinya development shows what that funding will deliver,” he said.

“With other local projects in the pipeline, it means accessible, secure homes for more vulnerable Queenslanders to have a place to call home.”

Across the Sunshine Coast, 240 social homes are already under construction or under contract, including:

  • 70 homes at Beerwah
  • 26 homes at Sippy Downs, due to start soon; and
  • Eight homes in Maroochydore, now under construction.
