Uniting NSW.ACT secures $1.75M grant for social housing energy upgrades

1 min read

Uniting NSW.ACT has received $1.75 million from the Australian and NSW Governments to deliver energy-efficient upgrades – including hot water heat pumps, reverse-cycle air conditioners and solar panels – across 300 of its community housing units.

“We are delighted to be the recipient of this substantial grant, a grant that will make an enormous difference to the lives of the people living in our Community Housing units," said Tracey Burton, Uniting NSW.ACT's Chief Executive Officer.

Emma Nicholson, Uniting NSW.ACT’s Head of Housing, said the initiatives will drastically reduce the electricity bills in the units.

“The grant program targets residential units constructed before 2004 and will focus on areas of extreme weather conditions,” she stated.

SATURDAY is Monday's talking point: Are you in the conversation?

The operator is working on many fronts to tackle climate change and ensure that the people they serve are not left behind, according to Alice Salomon, its Head of Advocacy.

“We see every day the tough choices people are having to make between putting food on the table or paying an energy bill,” she said.

The installation work will be complete by April 2026.
