Petition against Brisbane Councils’ aged care/sports field development reforms attracts over 500 signatures

The Bulimba Creek Catchment Co-ordinating Committee (B4C) petition calls on the State Government to reject Council’s amendments to its City Plan that would allow private sport and recreation land to be made available for aged care housing.

They understand that any applications could also become code assessable under the changes and would no longer need public notification.

The petition follows a number of development applications for villages at Brisbane golf clubs, including Reside Communities’ deal with the Pacific Golf Club at Carindale and RetireAustralia’s partnerships with the Ashgrove and Tarragindi Bowls Clubs.

City Planning chairman Julian Simmonds told the Courier-Mail that the council was trying to address a critical shortage of aged care facilities across the city and singled out lawns bowls clubs as the type of private land that could incorporate aged care development to resolve financial issues.
