The new wave of Consumer Advocacy: The State Commission Assessment Panel had given the go-ahead to SA-based property developer Winwest’s plan to build 70 units across four buildings three- to five-storeys high at Aldinga Beach, 45km south of the Adelaide CBD – the tallest buildings approved for the local area.

But the Onkaparinga Council says it will lodge an appeal in the Environment, Resources and Development Court to overturn or amend the development which would also include residential apartments, retail and allied health services.

Council has agreed to spend up to $40,000 on costs to start the appeal process against the development which is in an area zoned for buildings up to three storeys high.

Cr Martin Bray told Adelaide Now they had to advocate for the needs of the community.

“We need to get the best result for them and we need to cross our fingers that it is not too expensive,” Cr Bray said.

Local advocacy group Friends of Willunga Basin says it is also weighing up its legal options.

In the meantime, Winwest will just have to await the outcome. What will be the cost to them?
