Three SA Government-run aged care homes fail compliance standards

The three homes (Minlaton’s Melaleuca Court (pictured), Disability SA’s Northgate aged care service and the Ira Parker facility) have either found to be non-compliant or have been sanctioned by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (ACQSC).

The state-run facilities make up just three of the total 23 homes across the state that ACQSC has found not to be up to standard – just two years after the Oakden scandal.

As we reported here in April, the 22-bed Ira Parker facility failed 19 of the 44 accreditation outcomes laid out by ACQSC. An audit of the home had been conducted following the death of a female resident as a result of a fire.

SA Minister for Human Services, Michelle Lensink, said that Department for Human Services had “acted immediately” to address the noncompliance at Northgate, and that this notice had since been downgraded to a “notice to remedy”.
