Yarra Ranges Council in the outer eastern and northeastern suburbs of Melbourne will turn over its aged care services to VMCH and MiCare from 1 July.

VMCH and MiCare will deliver Domestic Assistance, Individual Social Support, Personal Care and Respite Care services, while Uniting AgeWell will deliver Property Maintenance and Home Modification services.

According to a statement from Council, which made the decision to exit aged care in August 2021 due to upcoming Federal Government home care changes, all three providers are experienced Not For Profits with strong history in supporting older people.

“All are reputable organisations within the aged care sector and the local region. This is a great outcome for our current clients and ageing population, as these providers can offer a range of services from entry level to high level complex care as people’s needs change.

“Council is working with the incoming providers and the Federal Government to ensure that clients receive continuity of care with minimal disruption. In the coming days all clients will be receiving a letter informing them of their new provider and will be contacted directly by their new provider to discuss their ongoing arrangements for services,” it said.

Many Victorian councils are exiting aged care ahead of the implementation of Support at Home next year; Boroondara Council in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs this month made the decision to hand over its aged care to mecwacare.
