mecwacare to take over Melbourne’s Boroondara Council aged care services from August

City of Boroondara Council in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs will transfer its aged and disability care services to mecwacare from 1 August.

Boroondara is one in a long list of Victorian local governments to exit providing aged care services due to the Federal Government’s new Support at Home program, which will provide a unified home care system that local Councils say they are ill-equipped to manage.

In a statement, Council assured residents it will take care of staff and clients during the transition.

“The needs and care of our community is our top priority. Transitioning CHSP services across to mecwacare will make sure clients can access a greater range of services which can be tailored as their support requirements change.

“We have gathered feedback from clients and carers to help inform the transition plan. We will work closely with mecwacare to make sure there is a smooth transition of all services, and make sure each client’s individual needs are understood and met with no disruption,” it said.
