ESG, workforce headline at NSW Retirement Living Forum

Almost 200 delegates turned out to last week’s NSW Annual Retirement Living Forum, hosted by the Retirement Living Council and attended by representatives from the State Government, Opposition, and NSW Retirement Village Residents’ Association (RVRA).

Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello and Shadow Minister for Better Regulation and Innovation Courtney Houssos were among those who addressed the forum, which also saw Craig Bennett, President of the NSW RVRA, in attendance.

According to Daniel Gannon, Executive Director of the Retirement Living Council (pictured), the event was a productive day that saw operators come together with residents and service providers.

“We had a really deep dive into a discussion about having a view from the top by talking to operators about workforce demands they’ve got right now in addition to applying an ESG lens over the sector, and having a think about what adult kids of residents right now think about our ESG proposition and how that might influence the design and development of buildings and villages into the future,”
he told The Weekly SOURCE.

The forum also highlighted career opportunities in retirement living and asked how to make the sector more appealing to younger workers, said Daniel.

“How do we put this industry, which can provide fruitful long-term meaningful job opportunities, on the map at an earlier stage for the school leavers and uni leavers?

“There’s still a bit of thinking that’s going to go into that over the next couple of years as those workforce- and workplace-related demands continue to increase,” he said.
