Uniting’s rental village juggernaut continues at pace

1 min read

In June last year, The SOURCE reported Uniting intended to turn 40 of its existing retirement villages into rental-only villages over time.

The SOURCE caught up with Simon Furness, Director of Uniting’s Housing and Property, at the Property Council Retirement Outlook Forum in Sydney and asked how it was going.

“We have categorised 63 villages that either are now, or will become, rental only. Of these 19 are not registered as Retirement Villages (either because they never were or because we have de-registered them),” Simon said.

“Total number of units in the 63 villages is 1,367. A large number of these are currently RVA contracts that will be replaced by rentals as they expire.

“We certainly never have any trouble renting these units.”

Simon went on to say that the rental village initiative has been well received, by and large, by the residents with many praising the initiative.

“We are seeing many of the renters being very active members of the village communities,” he added.
