Second week of no retirement village in the eight applications

1 min read

For the first time in the 18 months that we have been reporting development applications, no retirement village DAs have been made across Australia for two consecutive weeks. An interesting concept to dwell on.

MEDIA STATEMENT

The CEO of Anglican Retirement Villages, Diocese of Sydney (ARV), Mr Ken Barber, has announced his retirement. Mr Barber’s retirement will take effect from the end of August 2009. He will also leave the Board at this time. This decision by Ken comes after 13 years with ARV, the past nine as Chief Executive Officer.

During the last 13 years, Ken has made a significant contribution to the growth and strategic development of ARV. His dedicated service has been characterised by an unswerving commitment to the fundamental principles of this wonderful organisation; Care and Christian Witness. These foundations have enabled growth and services development, allowing ARV to touch the lives of more people and do this in a respectful and sustainable way.

Ken commenced his service to ARV as Chief Financial Officer in June 1996 and whilst in that role was instrumental in laying a sound financial platform for ARV. This fiscal discipline is now a hallmark of ARV.

No one person is responsible for the success of an organisation with the complex and diverse geographic and cross disciplinary characteristics of ARV. From his appointment as Chief Executive Officer in 2000, Ken developed a group of highly skilled senior executives to direct the various spheres of operation. This team is well placed to continue the growth of ARV.

Ken’s retirement from ARV comes after 39 years of continuous work at ARV and within other organisations. Ken has advised the Board that he plans to spend more time with his family, he and his wife Marilyn intend doing more travelling and he wishes to study further.

The Board will now commence the process of appointing a new Chief Executive Office. A successor will be announced in due course.
