Mercy Health upgrades digital infrastructure

  • Network upgrade: Mercy Health has selected HPE to deliver a cloud-based platform
  • Reform ready: The new network supports secure digital connectivity requirements
  • Digital care: Enhanced connectivity
  • Resident outcomes: Improved Wi-Fi

The Not For Profit is upgrading and modernising its network connectivity across more than 40 aged care and retirement living sites.

Mercy Health, one of Australia's largest aged care operators with more than 2,600 residents, has chosen HPE (Hewlett Packard Enterprise) to deliver its cloud-based network platform for secure, high-performance connectivity.

The new Aged Care Act, rolled out last November, introduces increased expectations for reliable, secure digital connectivity. Today, strong digital foundations are the cornerstone of delivering contemporary care at scale.

The HPE Aruba Central cloud platform supports virtual consultations, assistive technologies and data driven approaches that can enhance resident wellbeing and support more informed decision making.

Reliable connectivity is also central to the electronic resident management system Mercy Health employs, eCase, which brings together resident information into a single secure view. With staff accessing systems via mobile devices while working directly with residents, the new network foundation will support timely documentation, informed decision making, and more personalized support.

"This modern, high-performance network will deliver dependable Wi Fi for residents to stay connected with loved ones, while helping staff spend more time with residents and stay seamlessly connected to the systems that support care planning," said Dr Paul Jurman, Chief Information Technology and Digital Transformation Officer, Mercy Health.

“We were impressed by the capability of HPE Networking’s solution and HPE’s commitment to understanding our business and digital transformation goals."

Previously, Mercy Health operated on a legacy network with inconsistent Wi Fi performance, making it difficult to resolve issues quickly and scale connectivity.

HPE's purpose-built platform provides a clear migration path from the legacy system.

“Aged care providers like Mercy Health are navigating growing complexity while staying focused on delivering genuinely person-centered care,” said Andrew Fox, General Manager for Australia and New Zealand, HPE Networking.

“By modernizing its network across more than 40 sites, Mercy Health is setting the standard for future-focused, digitally enabled aged services."
