Only in SATURDAY: $10,000 and months waiting to register overseas trained nurses as RNs

Australia is expected to be short around 85,000 nurses by 2025, yet overseas trained nurses are being asked to spend thousands of dollars and wait up to 18 months to qualify as Registered Nurses.

Among a range of hurdles to qualify, candidates must sit a three-and-a-half hour clinical simulation exam at the Adelaide Health Simulation in South Australia.

However, a new exam centre has been established in Melbourne and is adding to the pool of internationally qualified nurses already.
