Ross Gallagher named new IRT CEO, replacing Patrick Reid

Community provider IRT has today (Friday, 1 August) confirmed the appointment of Ross Gallagher as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Ross joined IRT in 2019 and has served as Interim CEO since May 2025, following the resignation of long-standing CEO Patrick Reid. His permanent appointment follows a rigorous recruitment process led by the IRT Board of Directors and reflects his strong performance in the interim role.

Patrick, who led the organisation for eight years, was appointed by Uniting NSW.ACT earlier this week.

Ross first joined IRT as Executive General Manager - Home Care, with his portfolio later expanding to also include retirerment living. Over the past six years, he’s been instrumental in shaping IRT’s strategic direction, guiding the organisation through periods of change, while strengthening its foundations for the future, the organisation said in a statement.

IRT Chair Peter Fitzgerald said Ross’ appointment affirms the Board’s confidence in his ability to lead with integrity, clarity and ambition.

“This marks a new and exciting era for IRT – one where we continue to build on our strong legacy, but with renewed focus and energy for the future,” he said.

Last week, IRT submitted a State Significant Development Application to redevelop its historic Woonona site in Wollongong's north. The organisation, which delivers retirement living, residential aged care and home care in NSW, the ACT and South East Queensland, is also planning a State Significant Development Application for land in Moruya in the state's Far South Coast.
