Viv Allanson OAM to retire after 31 years as CEO of Maroba

Outspoken and dedicated to the aged care sector, Viv has spent 31 years at the helm of Not For Profit Maroba in Waratah, Newcastle, and 50 years as a Registered Nurse.

"Viv’s contributions to Maroba and the aged care sector have been nothing short of extraordinary. Under her leadership, Maroba has flourished, setting a strong vision that has positioned us as a leading provider of quality care and services. She has been instrumental in the establishment of the Smart Training business, she is a true innovator and advocate for older people," said Maroba Board Chair Graeme Evans. 

"Through her passion, dedication, and foresight, Viv has ensured that Maroba is not just a place of care, but a beacon of excellence in the industry. As a result of her work and services to Aged Care, as you know, Viv was awarded a well deserved OAM.

"Her unwavering commitment has also led to the formation of solid, longstanding partnerships with our suppliers and the establishment of student programs across many clinical disciplines in partnership with University of Newcastle and other Universities that have helped shape the future of healthcare professionals. Viv is synonymous with Maroba, and her innovative and groundbreaking leadership will be deeply missed."

The announcement on Wednesday, 5 March, saw aged care leaders Raad Richards, Kelvin Neave, Geraldine Lannon and Veronica Jamison praise Viv's contribution to the sector.

"Outstanding contribution to aged care, has made our sector better," said Raad, Board Chair of Port Stephens Veterans and Citizens Aged Care, Board Chair of Leigh Place Aged Care.

Maroba has a 52-bed aged care facility and a separate 48-bed facility. The organisation opened its 23-unit retirement village, Maroba Terrace, in 1999, adjacent to the aged care facilities.    

As Viv begins to plan for her retirement in the second half of the financial year, the search for Maroba’s next CEO will soon begin.
