No new COVID-19 cases at Embracia Aged Care home in Melbourne – but 14-day lockdown still in place

An indication of how a single confirmed coronavirus case can impact on the running of an aged care home.

After one of its staff members tested positive for COVID-19 last week at its 102-bed Reservoir aged care home in Melbourne, the family-run operator is reporting that no new cases have been identified among its residents and 106 staff (including seven staff members in isolation) after two rounds of testing and a week of lockdown.

Results were due yesterday for three staff members and one resident who was in hospital that were unable to be tested in the second round.

Managing Director, Sarah MacKenzie, says the home has had to increased its staffing levels to facilitate higher engagement with residents during the lockdown in addition to working with the nurses and advisors provided by the Government.

Despite the clear results, the lockdown must also remain in place for the full 14 days with the seven staff members deemed to be close contacts also required to complete a full 14 days in quarantine to ensure full clearance.
