A decision will be made on the future of the $95 million Club Willoughby redevelopment proposal, on Sydney’s North Shore, which would include a new senior’s living complex.
The proposed development – a joint venture between Club Willoughby and the Hyecorp Property Group, founded by Chairman Michael Abolakian – would see the existing RSL venue bulldozed to make way for a three-storey club, plus 125 retirement living unit and a 72-bed aged care facility in buildings up to five storeys tall.
As we covered here when the plan was announced in October 2019, the club said the project was needed in order to remain operational as it was no longer “financially viable” as a bowling club.
But more than 150 community members have lodged submissions to the Sydney North Planning Panel during the consultation period with many expressing concerns over a range of issues including traffic changes and privacy.
Residents’ concerns will now be weighed up while panel members consider the submission and a decision is handed down.
