Third time lucky: SA aged care home lodges new plans for $23M expansion after opposition from NIMBYS

The new wave of consumer advocacy: The application to the State Commission Assessment Panel is the third in three years for Terry Snell, the owner of St George’s Park Nursing Home, in Fitzroy, 4km from the Adelaide CBD.

Last year, Mr Snell had applied for a $21 million expansion of the home using the State Government’s now-dumped fast-track assessment program for village and aged care developments valued at more than $20 million, but the plan was knocked back.

Under the new plan, the existing 30-bed home would be demolished and replaced with a new two-storey, 74-bed building.

The home’s general manager Saeed Shahi told Adelaide Now that it had “listened to the concerns of the Fitzroy and Prospect communities” in developing the latest plan.

Some locals still plan to oppose the development however, with one saying the proposed two-storey building would be “out of character with the local area”.

What then for other locals in need of aged care beds?
