Update: SA Govt scraps fast-track assessment for $20M+ village and aged care developments

1 min read

Just last week, we reported that Not For Profit Life Care had pulled out of its $250M plan to redevelop three Adelaide sites under new planning laws that allow major aged care projects to bypass local councils.

Now Planning Minister John Rau has abandoned the scheme he introduced eight months ago in March. “It has become clear that broader community engagement in delivering aged-care is necessary,” he told Parliament.

He added that the decision was based on “preliminary advice and community feedback” to a number of applications lodged under the scheme including Life Care’s plans.

The Liberal Opposition had already promised to throw out the laws if it won the next election in March.

Will the backflip see new developments in SA now take a back seat?
