Adelaide aged care application on hold after value mysteriously raised from $12M to $21M

1 min read

The application to redevelop the 32-room St George’s Nursing Home in Fitzroy, 4km from the CBD, had been rejected by the local council last September when it was valued at $12M, according to News Limited.

The proposal was then re-submitted to the SA Govt’s Planning Department with a price tag of $21M.

SA aged care and retirement living developments valued at over $20M are automatically granted major development status after Planning Minister John Rau change the planning guidelines back in March.

The Dept has now asked the developer to provide “acceptable justification” for the cost difference.

The proposed development would add 74 new rooms – one less than the original application – and is also 100sqm smaller, according to the local council.
