Mandating 24/7 registered nurses in NSW aged care homes passes Upper House

1 min read

The bill, which was introduced by the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party, is now likely to be debated in the Lower House this week.

The NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association (NSWNMA) says while the bill was not opposed by the Government in the Upper House, it’s not clear if they will support it.

Last year, the former NSW Health Minister Jillian Skinner said the state government would remove the requirement for RNs to be on site 24/7 in facilities with high care residents from the legislation – despite an Upper House inquiry that recommended it be kept.
