Barb Spriggs, who campaigned to bring the systematic abuse of residents at the SA Government run Oakden care facility, was selected by the Australia Day Council as The Senior South Australian of the Year.
Her husband Bob suffered overdosing of medicines and unexplained bruising, eventually dying in the facility.
As a result of her efforts, a SA is Parliamentary inquiry recommending the drafting of an Adult Protection Act and an Elder Abuse Prevention Unit to conduct investigations into elder abuse.
