The state’s 16 publicly owned aged care homes will be audited as part of the plan with the project to include assessing existing aged care facilities, their condition, compliance and efficiency, and will develop recommendations for staff attraction and retention.
QLD’s public facilities have around 974 residents, making up about 3% of the state’s total services.
The plan – expected to be completed by late March 2020 – will also consider draft recommendations from the Royal Commission into Aged Care.
A spokesperson for Queensland Health said: “We are following the progress of the Royal Commission; however, we are not waiting until the completion of the inquiry to continue improving the standards of aged care services in QLD.”
Queensland’s Labor Government does have a history of not waiting for the Federal Government to implement its own policies.
As we covered here, the State has also introduced legislation to mandate staff ratios in its public facilities and to ask all facilities in QLD to publicly report their staffing information.
