Queensland Government adds 16 aged care beds in its remote southwest

The Queensland Government is expanding its remote aged care services with the help of the Federal Government.

The State Government is building a new 10-bed residential aged care facility at Cunnamulla’s health service at a cost of $7.6 million, of which it is contributing $5.6 million. The Federal Government will fund the remainder.

The new facility will replace a temporary four-bed aged care unit that was established in March 2021, and will include an activity room, lounge, dining area, and sensory garden.

Work by New State Builders has already begun and is expected to be complete in early 2024.

The Government is also adding two single bedrooms with ensuites at each of Injune, Surat and Augathella multipurpose health services. Each of the three services will also have their shared living and recreational spaces expanded at a total cost of $5.3 million.

Work by S&K Duff Builders and DJ Buckley Builders begins this month and is expected to be complete by the end of the year.

Queensland’s Health and Ambulance Services Minister Yvette D’Ath said, “Through these health services, our communities have access to not only aged care services but also acute hospital services, allied health, early intervention programs, and community health services, all under the one roof.”
