The Not For Profit, which specialises in acquiring rural and regional care homes, announced this morning it will take ownership of several sites from the health and community arm of UnitingCare Queensland.

The seven sites are:

  • Emerald Avalon, a 60-bed residential aged care home, 875km driving north from Brisbane;
  • Gracemere, a 69-bed residential aged care home and the 22-unit Gracemere Gardens retirement village, 10km west of Rockhampton;
  • Hervey Bay Masters Lodge, a 60-bed residential aged care home and an 18-unit retirement village, 280km north of Brisbane;
  • Ingham Bluehaven, a 50-bed residential aged care home, 1442km driving north of the QLD capital;
  • Maleny Erowal, an 82-bed residential aged care home and the 15-unit Ben Bryce retirement village, 95km north of Brisbane;
  • Mareeba, a 64-bed residential aged care home, 1,715km driving north from Brisbane, and

  • Toogoolawah Alkira, a 41-bed residential aged care home and 14-unit retirement village, 118km northwest of the capital.

This means Respect has expanded its portfolio, adding to the 28 aged care homes and six retirement villages it already operates. Prior to the announcement, BlueCare owned and operated 46 aged care homes and 33 retirement villages.

“We believe our structure, expertise, and commitment to person-centred care will ensure a strong future for each of these services. We’re excited to welcome residents, families, and staff into our national organisation, which is backed by a strong reputation for compassion and a significant track record in delivering quality service and support, while also investing back into local communities,” said Jason Binder, CEO and Managing Director of Respect.

Cathy Thomas, Group Executive Aged Care and Community Services at BlueCare, said, “This was not a decision we took lightly but is one we believe is in the best interests of residents, employees and communities as we respond to significant transformation in the aged care sector."

The acquisition marks Respect's second entry into new territory in 2025 following its takeover of Amana Living's aged care, retirement living and home care services in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, in March.
