Stand-alone aged care provider Mitchell House in Morwell, in Victoria’s Gippsland region, has joined Not For Profit Respect Aged Care as its 15th facility.
Both the Mitchell House Hostel and Independent Living Units, located around 149km east of Melbourne, will transfer to Respect Aged Care.
Mitchell House Board Chair Dave Swainsbury (pictured) cites the numerous new requirements and restrictions stemming from the Royal Commission as being behind the move to merge with a larger provider.
“The numerous Royal Commission recommendations have significantly increased compliance
costs and expectations, and as a stand-alone, independent and small aged-care service, it is
becoming increasingly difficult to meet operational requirements, which has hindered our ability
to keep up with the ever-changing industry environment,” said Dave, who has promised that the merger will not adversely affect the home’s residents.“We believe that a larger scale organisation like Respect can bring the support and funding necessary to continue the excellent quality of care that we provide to the Morwell community through Mitchell House. This is coupled with Respect’s expertise and understanding of rural and regional communities and aged care facilities,” he said.
Jason Binder, Managing Director of Respect (pictured), says joining the provider will give Mitchell House much-needed opportunities.
“As a large provider of aged care facilities we have the resources and the expertise to survive the industry pressures whilst retaining the community goodwill of regional aged care organisations, which is a significant factor in any of these situations,” he said.
Respect Aged Care, which has a history of “aged care turnarounds”, now operates six sites in Victoria and 15 around the country.
